The DE marks started a couple years ago and continue to this day. The JS marks were not required my German law as the DE marks are and they started about 5 years ago and ended about two years ago I think. They are no longer marked "JS" so far as I know and not all pistols had those JS marks, only those sold through the sporting and hunting side of HK. Those pistols have a "JS" to the right and slightly below the "HK" markings on the slide. Before the DE marks, HK civilian sales were part of the sporting and hunting division. There is another set of marks you might see. When HKPRO is up and running again there is a sticky in the Reference Library that goes into pretty good detail about the DE marks. That is true for all German made pistols, SIG, HK. About two years ago all pistols made in Germany were ordered to carry the DE marking.
